Avatar 3: James Cameron Provides Insight into ‘Avatar 3’ Progress, Acknowledges Intensely Busy Two Years in Post Production, Decides to Exclusively Film Future Projects in New Zealand Moving Forward.
In a recent media briefing held in New Zealand, renowned director James Cameron shared an update on the status of Avatar 3. Currently undergoing post-production, Cameron described the ongoing process as extremely demanding.
Speaking to 1News chief correspondent John Campbell, Cameron stated, “We’re immersed in an intensely busy two years of post-production right now.” He also affirmed the scheduled release date for the third installment, saying, “So it will be Christmas of 2025.” Disney had previously announced a delay in the release dates of the three upcoming Avatar sequels, extending the timeline to 2031. Initially set for releases two years apart, Avatar 3 is now slated for December 19, 2025, Avatar 4 on December 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 on December 19, 2031. Following this timeline, the final film will hit screens 22 years after the original.
Cameron tantalizingly hinted that the third film will introduce a more adversarial faction of Na’vi. Furthermore, he pledged that all the forthcoming films will be filmed in New Zealand exclusively. Cameron expressed his commitment to creating films in the country “indefinitely” and disclosed his plan to become a New Zealand citizen in 2024.
